Crafty

My.Mom.Is.Crafty!!

Since we were wee little children, I can remember my mom working on her sewing machine making doll and barbie clothes, hemming and mending. The older we got, the less I've seen her sew. But, now that grand kids are in the picture, there has been a return of the knitting needles and sewing machine.

We are reaping the rewards of her skills. Scarfs to match every winter coat for winter, and pictured below are just a few of the recent items keeping her, and her machine, busy.

Diaper bag with matching burp clothes
For the little tooth, waiting for the tooth fairy.

Little aprons in the works.

I did take all the 4H classes back in the day, I think its time I dust off the knitting/crochet/sewing skills that are buried and 'get' crafty myself!

Winter Update

Wahoo!!! Less than one week and we can official put the word 'WINTER" behind us for the year!! I think I can speak for all of mankind when I say....I am SICK OF WINTER, the COLD, the DARK days! With that said, it has been a substantial amount of time since my last post, so this is just a quick update of the going-ons around here.

Eric, working hard as always, has made 2 trips to Miami, FL for work. There, he was able to get a taste of what's to come.... warm sunny days. I was jealous. He did bring me back some very cool house plants. A few weeks ago he, along with 6 other guys, headed north to 'the cabin' and spent the weekend having some male bonding. Eric has another trip planned in a few weeks with another group of friends.... sounds like fun! This past weekend he celebrated his 31st birthday. We had a date night on Friday and a group outing on Saturday night to celebrate.

I am busy making plans for summer. Camping reservation are made, a week at the cottage booked, even started planning for our fall trip back to Nashville! Summer is such a busy, social time that I look forward too. I joined a local MOPS group that meets twice a week at our church and look forward to those weeks we meet. My 31st birthday is just a few short weeks away, I hope its forgotten!

Abby is officially enrolled in school for 2011!! She will be attending Dorr Elementary in their 4yr old program, going M-W-F mornings. I don't know who is more excited! She also loves the weeks we go to MOPS. She gets to sing songs, do crafts, play with her friends in the gym and see Gma Huizenga who has been helping out in her class.

Megan, Oh Megan!!! She is in full swing 2 yr old, everything is NO! She still sleeps 12-13 hrs at night and takes a 3 hr nap each day. A meat eater but has nothing to do with the veggies. She is a month away from her 2nd birthday, and I'm still trying to figure out where those 2 yrs went!

With that randomness said, I will try and post on a more regular basis!

Copy Cat

I've seen others make this so called 'hair bow holder' and it looks easy enough for a person like me... so I gave it my best shot. You just take an old picture frame, paint, glue and ribbon and it's done!!
What started as a boring brown frame is now Abby's cute bow holder with a custom paint job to match her room.

Pool For Sale

It might not be the time of year where you think of hot temps, sunshine, and a day relaxing poolside. But the truth is, the weather we are ALL dreaming about is only a few short months away. We think its time to pass our pool onto a new home. Don't wait too long or this chance of a lifetime could pass you by!

OK, the truth is the pool is not for sale. During the 'blizzard of 2011' this past Tuesday night, our pool cover did not like the weight of ALL the snow and it pulled the sides of the pool in... it doesn't look so good.
We are waiting on the claims adjuster, figuring out if to get a new pool in the spring or no pool at all?!?!
If anyone would like to donate to the Brogger underground pool fund, please don't hesitate :-)

clever

If your children are anything like mine, they LOVE to play in the snow. When we had the 'blizzard of 2011' on Tuesday night my kids could not wait to get out and play Wednesday morning.

The thought of getting the kids' snow gear on, plus mine, makes my head hurt. By the time you get one child ready the other is overheated with all that crap on.

So it was time to get creative... bring the outdoors in!

I filled the sink with snow and let the kids have at it. They stood there for over and hour and played quietly!

p.s. disregard the mess behind Abby. When I'm stuck at home I feel a strong urge to bake.

Tip-up

This past Saturday morning, bright and early, Eric and 5 other guys headed north to meet up with 5 others already there, for a great day at Houghton Lake for tip-up time. This is the first year for these guys to spend some time fishing, snowmobiling and 4 wheeling, but tip-up has been around for over 60 years!

I was amazed at all the activities that go on during these 2 cold weekends in January. Just to name a few, there is a carnival, parade, fireworks, polar bear dip, family fun tent, beverage tents and so much more!

I was given limited details of their guys time away, but I do know that Eric had a great time and hopes this is a new tradition.

Eric remembered to take a few pictures with the camera, but most of his pictures were on his phone. You would not believe the sea of people and snowmobiles on the ice!!

More Snow

More snow = more sledding!!! This past Saturday we hooked-up with our good friends, the Dormans, at Church for some family sledding. It was cold and very windy, so we were only there for about an hour. I think the 'adults' did the majority of the sledding, but everyone had a great time! I think next year, I need to invest in another sled. One sled for a family of four is not going to cut it for very long.

Collin and Abby just chillin'
